How Long, O Lord

January 17, 2016 Speaker: Series: Revelation: A Spiritual Vision for Strength and Blessing.

Passage: Revelation 6

There are many questions that we ask of God in life. One question that we often ask in some form or another is the question the murdered Christians ask here in Revelation 6:10. It says they cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge….” This question: How long, O Lord, before you act, or judge, or deliver, shows up in a lot of different ways and places in the Bible. It occurs in multiple Psalms and opens the book of the prophet Habakkuk. Sometimes we go through problems and struggles that don’t seem to get any better and we question, and complain to God about the situation. We ask, How Long, O Lord?

This chapter, Revelation 6 speaks to this feeling that the world is out of control and that God is moving way too slowly to make things right. But it does so in a way that may be as challenging as it is comforting. What it tells us is that God has his plans and is doing things his way, on his terms and by his time-table. That's the message of this chapter. The unfolding of God’s plan requires great patience from God’s servants. If you are going to serve God you have to trust him.
