The Cornerstone

June 22, 2014 Speaker: Series: 1 Peter: The True Grace of God for the Real Issues of Life

Topic: Bible Passage: 1 Peter 2:4–2:8

Have you ever felt like your life is slowly crumbling apart or dramatically falling apart? Check your cornerstone. What are you building on that is so shaky? The storms will come. The storms are not your problem. If all you ever say is I need to get out of this storm you may be missing the true solution and the point of it all. You need a cornerstone that can weather the storm. So say to Christ, from now on I am building my life on you. When you see that being true to Christ is your greatest good then lining up with him will become your greatest joy.

1 Peter 2:4-8 (ESV)

4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”
8 and

“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
