Nicaragua Missions
From February 25th - March 5th, 2009, eight members of our church family traveled to San Ramon, Nicaragua for the "Care to Bless" medical/dental mission with Corner of Love. They are pictured above from left to right - Eddie Lopez, Ron Merthe, Brad Armel, Lauren Holloway, Craig Sawchuk, Robie Robinson, Tom Williams and Cheryl Geno. They were joined by 71 other missionaries that included doctors, nurses, dentists and ordinary folks who wanted to serve the people of northern Nicaragua. They were divided up into teams and every day, for 5 days, held clinics. Over 3000 people were seen and over 9000 treatments were given out. The vast majority of the medicine given was an anti-parasitical called Mebendazole to help with water-born disease. Every person seen was given enough treatment for their whole household. Dental clinics were also held and, new this year, an eye doctor came and did exams and gave out glasses and helped treat eye infections.
Our "Daytona 8" as they were affectionately called, had a wonderful trip and felt ready to go back again.
